Alter相关词汇辨析

个人觉得alter、alternate、alternative这三个词比较重要，但又容易混淆，所以专

门为大家做些辨析。

1、alter

词意

vt. 改变，改动；复原，更改；使变样.

eg. Have you altered your mind? 你改变主意了吗?

vi. 改变，变化，变样：

eg. Beijing has altered almost beyond recognition. 北京变得几乎认不出来了。

change, alter 辨析

这两者作不及物动词时，两者可通用。

change 作及物动词时，则是对本质的，全面的，彻底的改变。

如：Can you change the dress? (你能给我更换这件衣服吗？)

alter 作及物动词时，是对局部，表面的改变。

如：Can you alter the dress? (你会改做这件衣服吗？)

2、alternate （在alter后加-nate）

词意

adj. 轮流的；交替(发生)的；更迭的；相间的

eg. They were streaked with alternate bands of colour. 他们都带有色彩交替相间

的条纹。

n. 轮流者；交替者，交替的东西,替补

eg. In most jurisdictions, twelve jurors and two alternates are chosen.

在大多数审判中，12名陪审员和2名替补人员会被选出。

v. 使交替；使轮流；使更迭.

eg. She alternated singing and dancing. 她一会儿唱歌，一会儿跳舞。

She alternated between hope and despair. 她时而充满希望，时而绝望。
