Have you been asked for money by some disabled beggars(乞丐) while you’re enjoying

their terrible shapes? As one of the special groups, disabled people’s living conditions—not only
their material(物质的) conditions, but also their mental(精神的) world—really need improvement.
The treatment for disabled people should go like this: First, don’t look down upon them. Don’t
be afraid of looking at the terrible shapes of the disabled. Try to treat them equally. Because they are
part of the society, we can’t discard(抛弃) them. The second is to help them as much as we could. If
you can be a volunteer and do some work for the disabled people, that would be very nice. That does
help not only to the disabled people but also to yourself because you will feel good after your kind
action.

Welcome to Guide Dogs Training Center, boys and girls! First let me tell you something about
guide dogs. In 1918 a doctor and his pet dog walked with a soldier(士兵) who was blind. The doctor
went in the hospital for a short time. When he came out, he saw his pet dog had guided the soldier to
the other side of the hospital yard safely. So he taught a dog to guide a person and it worked out well.
Germany helped start a program to teach dogs to be guides.
Dorothy, an American woman, went to Germany to find out about the guide dogs. When she
came back to the United States, she wrote it for a magazine. Soon more people knew of the guide
dogs.
The best dogs for the job are clever and fit. It takes more than two years to train a little dog to be
a guide dog. When the dog is 14 months old, it learns many instructions. Then the owner and the dog
meet, and they practice for four weeks.
Have I made myself clear? OK, let’s go on visiting.

look down upon them.”及画线词所在句的后一句“Because they are part of
the society ...”可知,作者提出我们不应该歧视残疾人,因为他们是我们社会的一部分,由此可推知,作者意在要求人们平等地对待残疾人。由此可知,equally意为“平等地”。
5. C推理判断题。由第二段第四句“Try to
treat them equally.”可知,残疾人在日常生活中通常得不到平等对待,故选C。

Dear Jane,
How are you? Last Sunday my
classmates and I went to visit the sick
children in Children’s Hospital. We took the
bus there with a lot of toys. When we got
there, the children were very happy to see us.
Then we gave out toys. Some girls sang
songs and danced to cheer them up. Some
boys played games with them happily.
Others read funny stories and made them
laugh. All the kids were really happy. And
we also got a strong feeling of satisfaction
from the volunteering.
I think it’s our duty to help the sick
children. We should do more volunteering.
Do you agree with me?
Yours,
Jim
