愚公移山的英文故事
Once upon a time, there was an old man named Yugong who lived
with his family at the foot of two immense mountains.
Unfortunately, these mountains posed a great inconvenience to the
villagers, making it difficult for them to travel to the other side.
Determined to improve the living conditions for his family and
fellow villagers, Yugong came up with an audacious plan – to
move the mountains. His wife, children, and even some of the
villagers ridiculed him for his unrealistic idea, but Yugong
remained undeterred.
Yugong's determination caught the attention of two deities, who
were impressed by his perseverance. They decided to assist him in
his quest. One night, the deities sent two divine boys who swiftly
dug out a portion of the mountain.
When the villagers saw the progress made overnight, they were
amazed and started to help Yugong in his endeavor. Although they
only had simple tools like shovels and baskets, they all worked
together tirelessly. They carried the stones, muck, and dirt in the
baskets and dumped them into the rivers and valleys.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Day by day, inch
by inch, the mountains began to shrink. People passing by were
amazed by the villagers' united efforts and Yugong's determination.
Word of their incredible feat spread far and wide.
As time went on, Yugong became old and frail, unable to
contribute physical labor. However, his spirit remained unyielding.
Even when some villagers suggested giving up due to the
seemingly impossible task, Yugong firmly refused to abandon the
project he had started.
Finally, after years of persistent effort, the mountains were reduced
to small hills. Yugong's unwavering belief and dedication had
triumphed over adversity. The deities were so moved by his
steadfastness that they decided to move the hills away completely,
leaving a clear path for future generations.
Yugong's story became a legend, a testament to the power of
determination and unity. It taught people that no obstacle is
insurmountable if one has the will to overcome and the support of
those around them.
And so, the legacy of Yugong, the old man who moved the
mountains, lived on, inspiring generations to never give up and to
face challenges head-on, one step at a time.
