Apache JMeter Master Slave Setup on Azure VM - Stack Overflow

I am new to JMeter Distributed Environment setup. I dont have any knowledge on how to setup the master

I am new to JMeter Distributed Environment setup. I dont have any knowledge on how to setup the master slave configuration. I just have the information that we have a Master VM and we can spin up slave VMs which are all in Azure. Can someone explain on how to setup the configuration. I have seen Official JMeter website where it says to generate rmi keystore and update the remote_hosts in jmeter properties file, firewall disabled, Server running on Slave machine with keystore placed in bin folder. But this setup is for windows Machine. But what would be the procedure if there are Azure Master and slave Servers.

  1. Where to start with the setup. Will they have java installed with same version or should i get java and jmeter installed on my own? (If yes can you suggest on how to do that)
  2. What about the JMeter Test Plans created in Local. Should they be copied to all the Master Slave Servers?
  3. What about the Test Data Files as they have a specific path across each server, should this require the testdata to be pasted in bin folder (Would result in multiple files being uploaded) or is there any other way to manage the test data files to be accessed from master machine.
  4. In JMeter GUI if we select run and select only 1 Slave Machine. Will it run on the Slave Machine alone or will it run on Master machine as well.
  5. If i want to include the master machine to also be part of the execution. what options / key changes need to be ensured.

Can someone help/suggest on establishing a Distributed Test Setup on Azure VMs.

Thanks in Advance and Appreciate your support.

Checked JMeter Official Website. Did a lot of Google search and followed multiple pages but most of them talk about setup on Windows and they dont address on the questions asked. Searched on stackoverflow but couldn't get proper info

  1. You need to install everything yourself, Java and JMeter should have same versions
  2. Test plan you need to have only on Master
  3. Test data files need to be copied to each slave. If you want to avoid this there are options like HTTP Simple Table Server
  4. Master machine only sends test plan to slaves and collects results, it doesn't conduct any load
  5. If you want to run your test on master as well you need to start jmeter-server process there and use local IP or hostname along with remote slaves
