dark与darkness

1. 两者都可表示“黑暗”，都是不可数名词。其区别如下：

(1) dark 前通常用定冠词，而 darkness 前通常不用冠词。如：

Darkness was falling fast. 黑暗很快来临。

Children are usually afraid of the dark. 小孩通常都害怕黑暗。

2. 表示“在黑暗中”，用 in the dark 或 in the darkness 均可。如：

Cats can see in the dark(ness). 猫在黑暗中能够看见。

The light went out and left us in the dark(ness). 灯熄了，我们面前一片漆黑。

但是 (be) in the dark (about) 用于引申义表示“对……一无所知或被蒙在鼓里”时，

通常不用 darkness。如(from )：

We are still in the dark about the cause of the fire. 我们还不清楚起火的原

因。

3. dark 还可以表示“黄昏”、“傍晚”、“黑夜”等，此时不用 darkness。注意此时

dark 前通常不用冠词。如：

They turn the light on at dark. 他们在黄昏时开灯。

Try to get home before dark. 尽量在天黑以前回家。

I’m afraid to go out after dark in the city. 在城里我害怕天黑后出门。

daily, everyday, every day

三者都可表示“每天”、“每日”，其用法区别如下：从词性和用法上看：daily 可用作

形容词(只作定语)或副词；everyday 只用作形容词(只作定语)；every day 是副词性短语。

从词义上看：形容词 daily 指“每日的”，指的是每 24 小时发生一次的，或指每日必然

发生的；而 everyday 表示“每日的”、“普通的”，指普通或平常的事；用作副词的 dail

y 几乎与 every day 同义，两者常可换用，只是后者更口语化。比较：

He gets a daily wage. 他领的是日薪。

Cooking dinners is her everyday job. 做饭是她每日的工作。

These are my everyday shoes, not my best ones. 这是我日常穿的鞋子，不是

最好的。

The machines are inspected daily [every day]. 机器每日均经检查。

We milk the cows twice daily [every day]. 我们每天给奶牛挤两次奶。
