"Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Instead,

we are more concerned about how to "survive" in the human world

full of competition. Competition always carries abreast

challenges and opportunities to everyone involved. It might

appear in an entrance exam, in a regular class, or in a small

public speech. Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether

an opportunity or a challenge a competition really is- will lose

something more or leconducive to our growth. Of course, if we take

the competition as an opportunity, we will favor it intentionally

because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make

us become the focus of public attention; they will grant us more

chances and rights to succeed. As a matter of fact,

at the crossroads. The other fork, ignored by us and defined as

"fearful challenges", offers much more chances

for the walker in competition. We have such an inclination(倾斜) in life to overestimate ourselves and hold a

thoughtleattitude towards the negative outlook of things. We

believe in the old saying, "Opportunity knocks but just once,"

so we always welcome it and devote all our spirit and efforts

to it. The most devout believer of this saying are the graduates.

Why? There are quite a number of them who pay full attention to

positions in big cities and are willing to flood into developed

areas under any circumstances, even though there will be too much

uncertainty for their choices. Innumerable cases go straight to

the same miserable end: God seems to refuse to help too many of

His worshipers. In conclusion, to define the quality of

competition seems to be far from valuable sense, for no matter

what a competition is, an opportunity or a challenge, it will

create nutritious elements for our growth. So take a positive

look at everything around. Keep our face to the sunshine, and

afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Today the title of my speech is

the present is my top concern. Actually I got the assigned

title just the day before yesterday. So, as you might imagine,

I was so anxious about this speech contest at that moment. Because

I’ve got no draft yet while I got only two days to prepare for

my speech. So the main contradiction to me then was to make a draft.

I searched for a proper topic I concerned most in my mind over

and over again, but I was always suspicious if there is another

topic I concerned more. So I kept

on searching. When I was attending a class, I was searching; when

I was having dinner, I was searching, and when I was lying in the

bed and going to sleep, I also didn’t stop searching. I found

that I was in such a situation where there is nothing in my mind

but the topic and the speech. Gibran’s words suddenly came to

my mind that we went too far to remember why we start. And I finally

found out what I concerned most at that moment was just that moment

itself. We view our life as a long trip, and we each have an

ideal destination. But some of us valued that destination so much

that they missed the beauty alone the journey. Some of us valued

that destination so much that they got afraid they fail to get

there. But sooner or later, they will find out there’s no such

a destination to arrive at once and for all. So why don’t we

just cherish the moment right now instead of wasting time

striving for a so called destination? John Lennon once said

life is what is happening while we are busy making other plans.

However, cherishing the moment doesn’t mean we don’t even think

about or make plans for the future. The truth is, we are not going

to worry about the future. Cherishing the moment can just enable

us to discover the beauty of life and enjoy the richneof life.

And for my college life at present, I’d like to try to set foot

in as many strange fields as possible; I’d like to make friends

of all kinds; I’d like to do some work out to keep fit; and I’d like to do my best to help people in need. And I believe that

is the ideal trip of my life; and I believe that is the very

Today it’s my great honor here, standing on the stage, to

share my view points on “opportunity and challenge”. First

of all: Definitions of the opportunity and challenge. So,

what’s an opportunity? Opportunity is a time when a particular

situation makes it possible to do or achieve something. It is

not accomplish of our goal, it may be just a good begninning;

it is not achievement of another seashore, it may be just the

fair-weather on the day we set out; it is ont a matter of flowers,

applause or success, it is a great chance which god provides us,

helps us to realize our dreams, it is an advantage we won over

for our success, it may be just a platform to show ourselves, maybe

just a proper position. But if you are right at a window of an

opportunity, “take it, seize it and make good use of it.” I

believe in an old saying, "Opportunity knocks but just

once",everyone is longing for an opportunity, but once an

opportunity goes by, cause of some objective or subjective

reasons, they hesitate, thereby, time flies and opportunity is

gone. It is too late when you realize this problem, but the

opportunity never returns. So, when an opportunity comes, grab

it tightly, and devote all our spirit and efforts to it. God seems

to refuse to help too many of His worshipers. Then, what about

challenge? Challenge is a new or difficult task which test our

ability and skill. It is not just hurdles on the way, it is the

spirit of drawing sword; it is a chance to say “I can”, it is

a fighter, a sense of courage, the fearless spirit towards all

difficulties, it is the untamed spirit resourced from our deep

inside. Many people are afraid of challenging or being challenged,

worry about change, failure or other factors. But I think as a

human, we should welcome challenging and as a man, we should

welcome being challenged. We should be challenging, there are

so many things arounds us which should be broken, such as the

old, the stereotype, research fields

and so on. The more challenging the better, the more challenging,

the more chances we get to improve our world. Also we should enjoy

being challenged. It is a world full of competitions, if you

avoid it deliberately, you will fall behind very quickly. If you

are challenged, first rule, don’t be frustrated. If you are right,

it’s a victory for you and if you are wrong or say not perpect,

it’s also an supplementary for you or your knowledge, you have

also learned a lot of things. What did you lose! It’s a win-win

strategy! Why feel frustrated? So, enjoy being challenged, it’s also a state of mind which make you to improve. Secondly,

what’s the relationship between the opportunity and challenge? It’s obviously that these two themes always come along. No

challenge,no opportunity, vice versa. Every Chinese people will

never forget that during the 2022 summer Olympic games held in

Beijing, eyes all over the world were focused on our country.

Hosting the Olympics presents a range of opportunities, of

coures, together with many challenges such as environment,

international relations, urban development and so on. Another

example, along with the opportunity, with the high speed of our

country’s financial development, we meet with many challenges,

say, severve problems such as inflation recently, high

unemployment rate, medical insurance problems, etc. So these two

themes always comes along, only by dealing with both of them

properly can we develop continiously. All in a word, hold the

opportunity tightly, face the challenge bravely and adjust your

state of mind, success is right at the corner! That’s all of

my own future ideal

job. Everyone has a dream job. My dream is to become a boss,

own a company. In order to achieve my dreams, I need to find

a good job, to accumulate some experience and wealth, it is the

necessary things Of course, in the school good achievement and

rich knowledge is also very important. Good achievement and rich

experience can let me work to make the right choice, have more

opportunities and achievements. At the same time,

communication is very important, because it determines whether

my company has a good future development. So I need to exercise

Ladies and gentlemen, We engineering students take it for

granted that technology is changing incredibly fast. We are

thinking nervously and seriously whether our colleges are

failing to provide a foundation in the skills currently needed

in industry. Take my major telecommunications for example.

Scientists say that 21st century is a biomedical time, not an

electrical time. But without the help of electronic data

processing and transformation, biomedical technology alone

cannot go too far. Funny enough, the word biomedical itself is

just a combination of two disciplines. So the interdisciplinary

exploitation serves as the critical part for our electric and

electronics world as well as any other fields to find new way

of being.

But the power of knowledge collaboration is certainly not

restricted to science and engineering; it is in the full

community of learning. Walking around campus I absorbed a

reality that there is a seamless web between students from

different professional backgrounds. The engineering students

are discussing animatedly in a philosophy lecture, speaking

passionately in the public speaking club, and looking for

sparkling ideas from learning history and arts. How wonderful

that is! That, ladies and gentleman, is just a significant step

forward to be well-rounded because once we jump out of the circle

we can see the bigger picture. My friends, I hope that you have

already got what university is all about. Please let me end my

speech with the Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao’s words: “The

realization of the perfect combination of science and engineering,

science and arts, technology and humanity， is the greatest symbol

of a university’s success.” Thank you.
