My Trip to Shandong Province
Hi friends! I'm so excited to tell you all about my amazing
trip to Shandong Province in China. Shandong is a really cool
place with lots of fun stuff to see and do. Mom and Dad took me
there for our summer vacation and it was the best trip ever!
First, we went to this huge mountain called Mount Tai. It's
one of the Five Sacred Mountains of China and people have been
going there for over 3,000 years! Can you believe it? That's older
than ancient Egypt! We had to climb up a bazillion stairs to get to
the top, but it was totally worth it. The view was incredible - we
could see the whole countryside for miles and miles. There were
also tons of cool temples and gates along the way. My favorite
was the Jade Emperor Summit temple at the very top of the
mountain. It's painted bright green and has these fierce looking
stone lions guarding the entrance. So awesome!
After conquering Mount Tai, we headed to the city of Qufu.
That's the hometown of Confucius, who was a famous
philosopher a really long time ago. We toured his family mansion
and the beautiful temple where people go to honor him.
Everything was made of wood and looked super old, but in a
neat historic kind of way. I got to dress up in traditional robes
and try writing with a calligraphy brush. It was harder than it
looks!
The next stop was Qingdao, a city right on the ocean. We
visited this place called Badaguan which used to be an old
fortress built by the Germans when they lived there. You can
walk along the stone walls and look out over the sea. We also
went to the Qingdao Beer Museum to learn about the city's
famous Tsingtao beer. Dad liked that part a lot! I thought the
best part was the Qingdao Aquarium though. They had huge
tanks with sharks, rays, and all sorts of cool fish. I even got to
touch a starfish in the petting pool!
Speaking of food, Shandong has some of the yummiest food
I've ever tasted. We had these crazy delicious steamed buns
stuffed with pork and veggie fillings. They're called baozi and I
must have eaten like a hundred of them! Shandong is also
famous for its fresh seafood. We had these shrimp that were the
size of a grown-up's hand - no lie! Everything was always
