possible by skimming and scanning.
Writing skill: Be able to write a letter of welcome with correct format
Translating skill: Be able to work out the equivalent English expressions
of Chinese expressions independently.
3. Ideological aim: 1) Know some basic knowledge about the privacy
right
2) Be aware that what we must strive for is the right
balance between what should be respected as private
in our lives and what belongs to our more-or-less

Unit 1 Text A Eating Food That’s Better for You, Organic or Not

Teaching procedures:
Ⅰ. Words and Expressions & Warm-up ( 1 period)
i. Words and Expressions (20 mins)
Step 1: About 4 students are asked to read the words and expressions to find out the unfamiliar or
wrong pronunciations.
Step 2: The teacher makes explanation on unfamiliar pronunciations and corrects the wrong
pronunciations and then asks Ss to read the words and expressions after him/her three times.
ii. Warm-up Listening (25 mins)
Step 1: Read the listening material to 1)get the main idea ; 2) predict the words and the part of
speech of the words missed in the blank according to the context.
Step 2: First listening and check
Step 3: Second listening and check
Step 4: Third listening and check
Step 5: Make Explanation of the material and some of the missing words.
Ⅱ. Text A: The right to privacy is a myth ( 1 period)
Step 1: First reading: Read the text and answer the following questions. (10 mins)
1. What happens to the right of privacy these days?
2. What are the differences in privacy behaviors among the writer’s generation, his children’s
generation and his parents’ generation?
3. How does the writer describe privacy in colonial days?
4. What should a society do if it tries to do away with class structure?
5. Why does the writer say that we need to return to smaller, more self-contained communities to
solve problems of modern city life?
Step 2: Second reading:
(10 mins)
Which paragraph contains the following information? Fill in the blanks with the corresponding
paragraph numbers
1) The prevalence of privacy intrusion makes me think about the necessity of privacy.
2) There are differences in privacy behavior among different generations.
3) I look back on the development of privacy and learn something.
4) I find a method to solve the problems of modern city life.
5) I value privacy and we need to strive for the balance between private life and public life.
