An Unforgettable Summer Adventure

Last summer was the most exciting time of my whole life! My

family went on an amazing camping trip to the Rocky Mountains.

I had never been camping before, so I didn't know what to

expect. But it ended up being an adventure I will never forget!

We left home early one Saturday morning and drove for

what felt like forever. I asked Mom and Dad about a million times,

"Are we there yet?" Finally, after hours in the car, we arrived at

the campground. It was in the middle of a huge forest, with tall

trees all around us. I could smell the fresh pine in the air and hear

birds chirping.

Dad backed the car up to our campsite and we all piled out,

stretching our legs after the long drive. Then the real work began

- we had to set up our tent! Mom and Dad helped guide me and

my little brother as we struggled to put all the pieces together. It

took a lot longer than any of us thought it would.

After what felt like an entire day, our tent was finally

standing! Dad got a fire going in the fire pit and we roasted hot

dogs and made s'mores for dinner. The gooey marshmallows got

all over my face and hands, but I didn't care one bit. It was so fun!

That night, we all climbed into our tent and zipped ourselves

inside. I've never experienced darkness and quiet like that before.

No street lights, no sounds except the occasional hoot of an owl.

It was a little spooky at first, but also really cool.

The next morning, we woke up to sunlight peeking through

the tent. Mom cooked an amazing breakfast of pancakes, eggs,

and crispy bacon over the fire. After we ate, Dad said we were

going on a hike. A hike? In the actual wilderness? I was nervous

but also excited.

We all laced up our boots and hit the trail. The path was

narrow and wound its way up the side of a mountain.

Occasionally we would come across smaller trails branching off,

but Dad knew to stay on the main one.

The higher we got, the more amazing the views became. We

could see forever, with mountains towering all around us. I had

never seen anything like it! My legs started to get tired, but I

didn't want to complain.
