7.1General:
7.1.1Asfaraspracticable,subjecttheentirevolumeofthe
eofradiiatchange
ofsectionsandotherlocalconfigurations,itmaybeimpossible
toexaminesomesectionsofaforging.
7.1.2Performtheultrasonicexaminationafterheattreat-
mentformechanicalproperties(exclusiveofstress-relief
treatments)butpriortodrillingholes,cuttingkeyways,tapers,
grooves,onfiguration
oftheforgingrequiredforthetreatmentformechanical
propertiesprohibitsasubsequentcompleteexaminationofthe
forging,itshallbepermissibletoexaminepriortotreatmentfor
cases,reexaminetheforging
ultrasonicallyascompletelyaspossibleafterheattreatment.
7.1.3Toensurecompletecoverageoftheforgingvolume,
indexthesearchunitwithatleast15%overlapwitheachpass.
7.1.4Formanualscanning,donotexceedascanningrateof
6in./s[150mm/s].
7.1.5Forautomatedscanning,adjustscanningspeedor
instrumentrepetitionrate,orboth,topermitdetectionofthe
smallestdiscontinuitiesreferencedinthespecificationandto

shallthescanningspeedexceedthespeedatwhichan

7.1.6Ifpossible,scanallsectionsofforgingsintwo
