Quality or Examination-oriented Education???
What are Quality-oriented Education and Examination-oriented Education?
Generally speaking, attributed to cultivate students the abilities of tapping their
potentialities, Quality-oriented Education is a kind of open education that
operates on the guiding principle that everyone has his own unique potential
and characteristic. Controversially, Examination-oriented Education is, to a
certain extent, a kind of education that just prepares students for all kinds of
examination and good performance in academic study.
The majority of interior areas in China carry out Examination-oriented
Education. So a child will go to a primary school in his/her seven or eight after
kindergarten and then go on a junior school. This two period education lasts
nine years, which is so-called nine-year compulsory education, for all free. It is
regulated by the power of constitution. So every child of legal age has the right
to receive nine-year compulsory education locally. After that, if he/she is willing
to keep on study, he/she may choose three-year public school, which is not for
free, or even Skill College. Then, if he/she is striking in academic grade in the
three senior school, he/she can gain the admission of university though College
Entrance Examination and get more advanced education.
Whereas, although the completely/practically total children in China legally
receive nine-year compulsory education and most of them can also finish their
senior school, the rate of high education is not so satisfactory in the mainland as
far as now. It is deeply complicated to many facts, one of which is that most
after graduation are not capable of getting enough grade for entrance into
university. On the other hand, poverty and feudal mind hinder them from
stepping forwards. So they have to drop out and take responsibilities for
supporting the family and start to work in society, much more earlier than their
peers.
Despite of the manifest situation that Examination-oriented Education dominate
and for a long time will dominate in interior areas of China, if it had been
regulated and governed, Quality-oriented Education would have been
absolutely much more prevalent than Examination-oriented Education among
school students. A most simple reason for it is that Quality-oriented Education
have definitely not so many examinations. However, students like it not only
because of that apparent differences from Examination-oriented Education;

they clearly recognize what Quality-oriented Education will truly bring to
them------the enthusiasm/passion and interest of study, and there is one more
important gift for them. That is just an idea that everyone is probably more
excellent than others in one aspect at least after he is exploited and cultivated.
It gives them a strongly dynamic power of learning anything they are interested
in. So is there anything impossible for a student full of passion, determination
and right method?
As a college student, though I don’t have so much pressure coming from the
exams, I almost have the same feeling as them because I have experienced that
harsh time with no endless exams everyday. So, I really wish it won’t happen
generation by generation. It is my sincere wish and I believe it’s also yours!
Abstract: The examination-oriented education is, by definition is to deal with
exam-based education model, students on the effectiveness of the examination results.

developed countries have been rare examination-oriented education model. As the
social system and traditional mode of education for various reasons such as the
impact of examination-oriented education in university education in the country there
are still big market, and even became a cycle of examination-oriented education.
College Students’ Choice of Reading Materials
① The pie chart above illustrates the proportion of four kinds of reading materials ch
osen by college students. ② Newspapers account for 44% of their reading material, t
wice as much as magazines which constitute 22%, while fictions and textbooks only
make up 18% and 16% respectively. It is evident that college students spend the majo
rity of their time on newspapers, but much less on the rest of reading materials.
③ There are two main reasons for it. First, compared with other reading materials, ne
wspapers can help college students learn what is happening in the world every day. S
econd, all kinds of newspapers, ranging from foreign language newspapers, sports ne
wspapers to entertainment newspapers, can cater to different needs of college studen

④ Along with the increased amount of time spent on newspapers, some problems ari
se. The most serious one is that college students spend less and less time reading clas
sics, which are the essence of literature. Therefore, it is urgent that college students c
