Yumen Pass,also known as the Jade Gate Pass,is a historical and
strategic pass located in the northwest of ed in Gansu
Province along the ancient Silk Road,it played a crucial role as a frontier
defense and an essential gateway for cultural and commercial exchange
between China and the western regions.
The pass was originally built during the Han Dynasty(206 BCE-220
CE)to protect the Western Regions and maintain communication with
Central name"Yumen"literally means"Jade Gate,"which is
derived from the precious jade that was once transported through this
pass to the Central Plains.
Yumen Pass consists of two parts:the Outer Pass and the Inner
Outer Pass was a crucial military fortress with watchtowers and
walls protecting the Silk Road caravans from external Inner
