As we become more advanced in the way we use computer, many universities
throughout Western countries and elsewhere have begun to offer classes online. Upon
completing an online class, a person can receive credit for their education and can
graduate from a university without having to sit in on classes.
Research has found out those students who have classes online have a greater
desire to learn. Students who are taking online classes have argued that they could
receive the same information as a person sitting in class. They believe that people who
are unable to attend classes have the chance of learning and gaining a high degree
online. Statistics show that 50 percent of students taking classes online are smarter and
able to cope with the demands of professors. Out of this 50 percent, 48 percent receive
3
a degree online that is awarded to them by the accredited university. 37% of these
individuals have found good jobs with high salaries because of their online classes.
Thus, taking classes online serves as an advantage to students who cannot attend
regular classes.
However, it is also the case that educators are opposed to students taking classes
on the Internet. Educators believe that using the Internet is an important aspect of
learning; however the Internet should be secondary to the classroom. If a student were
just to sit in front of the computer typing, reading, etc., one could not express himself
or herself fully to a teacher because the teacher cannot see the students’ faces or hear
their voice. Facial expressions as well as verbal speech are important to learning.
Without enough interaction between teachers and students, sometimes it may be
difficult for students to understand what is being taught on the online classes.
Something would be lost.
23. According to the passage, who have begun to offer classes online?
A. Many companies B. Many universities
C. Training schools D. Government
24. What opportunities do online classes offer to those who are unable to attend
classes?
A. The chance of learning and gaining a high degree online
B. The chance of getting training and education
C. The chance of studying and earning money.
D. The chance of working abroad.
25. How many students taking classes online are able to cope with the demands of
professors?
A. 50%. B. 48%. C. 37%. D. 13%.
26. What are educators’ opinion about Internet and classroom?
A. Internet is more important than classroom.
B. Internet is as important as classroom.
C. Internet is less important than classroom.
D. Internet can take the place of classroom.
4
27. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. How to have an online class. B. Online classes are totally bad.
C. Online classes are helpful. D. The advantage and disadvantage of online classes.
